2009 Pontiac Torrent Review and Photos

General Motors starts getting rid of the unnecessary burden and the first victim is Pontiac Torrent. The automaker already has a similar vehicle, Chevrolet Equinox, so Torrent is just a waste of money.

According to the latest data, GM sold only 987 Pontiac crossovers this February which is a 55 percent loss comparing to 2008. Unhappy automaker officially admitted that Torrent is discontinued. Meanwhile another GM brand, GMC that specializes on bigger vehicles, is going to introduce new five-passenger crossover SUV to the market soon.

Pontiac Solstice and Vibe have been saved so far. The company prefers to keep the brand, focusing its effort on small cars and electric vehicles. The customers will still be able to purchase G5, G6, G8 and economical G3. GM North American vice president, Susan Docherty says that the brand already looks like one that offers a variety of fuel-efficient cars because four of six entries are “getting over 32 miles per gallon on the highway.”

After the statement like this, many people wonder if Pontiac is planning to go “green” and economical, then where is its version of Chevrolet Volt? Seems like Chevy design team should be temporary transferred to Pontiac.
